Recipe: Heart Attack… err Ultimate Grilled Cheese Sandwiches

This was in a collection of recipes my mom gave me & my sister for Christmas one year.  I took one look at this one and thought, holy crap… it sounds so wrong, yet so right.

I’ve eaten it a grand total of twice since then… which probably equals about 1.5x a year lol  Once you make it, you enjoy it… but think, omg I’m never having that again.  And then about a year later it sounds good again.

  • 1 3 oz package of cream cheese, softened
  • 3/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/8 tsp seasoned salt
  • 10 slices of Italian Bread, cut 1/2″ thick
  • 2 tbsp butter or margarine, softened
    • In mixing bowl, beat cream cheese & mayo until smooth.
    • Stir in cheeses, garlic powder, & seasoned salt.
    • Spread 5 slices bread with cheese mixture, about 1/3 cup each.
    • Top with remaining bread. Butter outside of sandwiches.
    • Cook in large skillet over medium heat until golden brown on both sides.

    I’ll admit, the mayonnaise threw me off initially but if you’re going for the whole heart attack don’t skip it because it is just not the same without it.  Although I suppose if you wanted to make it a wee bit lighter…
